Fall Fobs/ornies

Punch Needle Fobs may be used for a necklace or ornament.

These are two little punches what I'm calling fobs they can be used for a necklace as I've done or turned into a ornament for a tree or hang them from a cupboard handle for a unexpected decoration.

The first are two pumpkins for a fall and the second is for all you kitty lovers out there.

Both come in the same Pattern and are now available in my Etsy Cottage store!
The Pumpkins measure 1 1/4" x 1 1/2"
The cat measures 1 3/4" 1 1/2"
They are punched using one & three strand of DMC floss.  The pumpkins background is punched using Valdani #12 perle cotton, 100% Colorfast Hand-dyed threads.

They do not come with instructions for the finished piece.

 The Pumpkins I've used:
A leather strap
a small piece of broken wicker from an old bait basket
wool backing sewn by hand and blanket stitched on the edge
a bead of coordinating color
small metal beads
 and a old clock gear.

The Cat I've used:
Leather strap
Metal beads
Silver wire stitched to the wool on the inside.
A a variety of beads to compliment the punch.
Wool backing blanket stitched on the edge.

It's a fairly chilly day in Pittsburgh today.
So I'm settling in to work on some new punch designs for Christmas
and a bit of hooking.

Have a wonderful day, be creative!

T for Tea

Good Monday morning everyone!
I am hoping everyone had a wonderful weekend.

Lots of coffee this morning....I'm having a hard time waking up!
Thought it would be fitting to post one of my Patterns available in my Etsy shop (Briarcottage) called "T for Tea".
Caffeine is a must on a Monday morning and I'm sure enjoying mine.

I am hoping to have available this week a new Christmas & Fall Pattern, so stay tuned......
Also an updated photo on a large abstract hooking I'm attempting, Lots of items on the frames so I'd better skedaddle!

 Have a wonderful day,
Kate

My new fiber studio

I've just begun a new rug,
A large 60" x 55" approx. abstract landscape. I usually hook in a traditional form. But hopefully this time I can break away and loosen up, and develop a freeform rug. Deanne Fitzpatrick's video's have been a huge inspiration.  If you haven't seen her work and videos do swing by Youtube and check them out!

I've converted an old easel, that was kicking around from my painting days. It was fairly simple to convert. Ordered gripper strips and Monday they arrived. The Hardest thing about this project was attaching the strips. I do suggest you wear gloves!

I spent Saturday morning dyeing the wool and roving, which is always fun. Seeing the colors emerge from the dye pot, and having a wide variety of colors to choose from, I'm like a kid in a candy store.

Last week I broke down my painting and Winkle world studio and reinvented the studio from paint to fiber. Its now a wonderful space with everything fiber at my fingertips. What fun!

Bit by bit I'll chip away at my rug, in between designing punch needle patterns. For all you Winkle collectors out there, I haven't quit all together but they will be limited. Merry Melinda is on the Punch frame and will be posted hopefully by the weekend.

Have a wonderful day!

Summer's trellis

Good afternoon everyone!
Not sure about your neck of the woods but here in Pittsburgh, It's gorgeous!

Just finished this piece called "Summer's Trellis"
It is a one, two and three strand punch.
With your pattern there is a color code and also how many strands to use. Easy code to follow so don't let that scare you...it's all repeat. I used DMC and Valdani Black in that nice convenient ball, but DMC black would work fine also.
