Amongst the Patch Rug

Yesterday I posted the punch needle version of my new pattern.
 “Amongst the Patch”
Today I’d like to offer the rug hooking/punching pattern available also in my Etsy shop.

This was hooked using yarns and other fibers such as roving, and wool strips.
You can hook yarn instead of using the oxford if you prefer. I hooked this model using primitive hookers linen & a hookers hook. If you are using the oxford punch I do suggest the smallest needle which I believe is the # 13 for the detail work.
I decided to add the black background on this one so I could mount it to hangers for my front door in the fall. You can do the same. Just extend the line from the outer edges. The pattern does not come with this so you can finish the cats head to its form like the below post in the punch needle model.

If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask.
Enjoy,

Friends

I was in need of something Bright and Cheery! This did the trick!

This is a six strand punch. I have to say, I found it very hard on my wrist. The tension punching the needle through the fabric was very resistant. Three strand goes through the fabric like butter, with no pressure on the wrist. So three strand, for me is the way to go, and once you get used to separating the threads it's a breeze.

Friends measures 6" by 9", Punch needle pattern, 6 strand punch. Color coded using only DMC Floss. It can also be enlarged for rug punch or rug hooking, message or email me if you're interested.

Available now in my Etsy Shop:

Wishing you a Cheery Monday morning,
Kate

My new fiber studio

I've just begun a new rug,
A large 60" x 55" approx. abstract landscape. I usually hook in a traditional form. But hopefully this time I can break away and loosen up, and develop a freeform rug. Deanne Fitzpatrick's video's have been a huge inspiration.  If you haven't seen her work and videos do swing by Youtube and check them out!

I've converted an old easel, that was kicking around from my painting days. It was fairly simple to convert. Ordered gripper strips and Monday they arrived. The Hardest thing about this project was attaching the strips. I do suggest you wear gloves!

I spent Saturday morning dyeing the wool and roving, which is always fun. Seeing the colors emerge from the dye pot, and having a wide variety of colors to choose from, I'm like a kid in a candy store.

Last week I broke down my painting and Winkle world studio and reinvented the studio from paint to fiber. Its now a wonderful space with everything fiber at my fingertips. What fun!

Bit by bit I'll chip away at my rug, in between designing punch needle patterns. For all you Winkle collectors out there, I haven't quit all together but they will be limited. Merry Melinda is on the Punch frame and will be posted hopefully by the weekend.

Have a wonderful day!

Dew Drops

Dew Drops

A new pattern available at my Etsy shop. Purple and greens I'm told this is a depiction of a purple coneflower. For me it's a touch of whimsey. Very fun easy puch. I suggest you use a three strand needle. I've used 3 strand for most of the punch.. and one strand for the windows and small detail.

Have wonderful day, and as always Happy Punching!

Hooking

FIBER ARTS

I have spent the last couple weeks, making a hooked rug that is long and narrow for a bench in my dining room.  For years I have used the bench for a Knick Knack space. I thought for a change it would be nice with a cushion on top and maybe some pillows. Just after Christmas I always take a little time off for me. Relax the body and clear my mind. So I decided to hook, which is very therapeutic. I am almost finished! The finishing of the edges is all that is needed and that will be done while I watch TV in the evenings. The days will now be spent for a week or so, coming up with designs for my Winkles. If you would like to see the results and process of the hooked bench seat head to my Fiber Arts page!
