Looking Forward to Spring

We did get the snow....and the ice

I was able to clear a little snow yesterday, and the sun is shining which is unusual in Pittsburgh.

My car doors are iced shut.... and my poor car, needs dug out. The temperature is not suppose to get warmer, so it looks like I'll be staying home for awhile. What a shame, another day Needle Punching. Ohhhhhh.... my!  I think I will work on Home sweet Home pattern.

Yesterday I was able to finish a punch needle, Jacobean Floral I will post it soon. I heard from a good friend of mine called yesterday, she would like another large Spindle person, she had purchased one in the past and would like a pair. So I will prime the spindle this morning and let it settle for painting, keep you posted!

Stay warm,
Kate

Hooking

FIBER ARTS

I have spent the last couple weeks, making a hooked rug that is long and narrow for a bench in my dining room.  For years I have used the bench for a Knick Knack space. I thought for a change it would be nice with a cushion on top and maybe some pillows. Just after Christmas I always take a little time off for me. Relax the body and clear my mind. So I decided to hook, which is very therapeutic. I am almost finished! The finishing of the edges is all that is needed and that will be done while I watch TV in the evenings. The days will now be spent for a week or so, coming up with designs for my Winkles. If you would like to see the results and process of the hooked bench seat head to my Fiber Arts page!

August already, Wow!

Well time got away from me this year! I have been working on my world of Winkles. (Paper clay sculptures) They are coming along nicely. I am so excited, and can't wait for you to see the new concept. As you know, last year I did one of a kind Winkle sculptures, with lots of detail.......(I love detail). They did so well, that this year I have decided to bring them to a smaller scale with the ability of seasonal change. Let me explain......
There are..............

SITTER'S: These are wonderful little hand made creatures that sit about 4 to 5 inches tall, they love to hang around on a corner of a shelf, window sill, a stack of books etc. anywhere your  imagination can think of. For example Cats, dogs, mice, witches, Santa's, elves, reindeer, bees, sheep, etc., even an Uncle Sam.

SIT-UPON'S: These are also hand made of paper clay, they are small sculptures that your sitters can sit upon, hence the name sit-upon's. These include things like pumpkins, grasshoppers, frogs, fireplaces, Christmas trees, top hats, snails, fish to name a few.....You can inter mix these with the sitters or let them stand alone without the sitters,  for an ever changing display or as your heart desires.

SIMPLE'S: Simples are little whimsical  accessories, that sit around or add to your sitters and sit upon's. like tiny books, plants, carrots, hats etc.

Example: You have the Sheep (Sitter), he is sitting in a chair (sit-upon), and there is a stack of books beside the chair (Simple). All interchangeable, Got it?

SCULPTURES: I will still be doing, the more involved sculptures, but only a couple a year, these are so detailed I can only put out, one of a kind.

SPINDLES: Spindles are also made of paper clay, These stand alone, they are tall figures that decorate your home for the seasons, really cool! They are made from old stair spindles or chair spindles. Very different!

I wanted to give you a break down on the concept.... I hope it's not confusing! Pictures are coming soon, so keep watching........

Happy Mothers Day

My heart goes out to all the mothers out there!
Today is a day to celebrate, a day to spend with your family, for me to celebrate and think of my mother who has passed, but not forgotten. A day that I spend thinking of my children. My children have gone there separate ways. But I remember the days when we were a family. The happy days, when little things counted so much. Don't overlook the little things, when they fly the coop you will remember.

TAKE TIME TO ENJOY THE SIMPLE THINGS IN LIFE!

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!

Decision Made

After much thought, my heart says to leave it wood! I know boring right, not really it is beautiful as is. I try not to paint pieces that are not in need. I stick to pieces that the veneer is not good or they have good bones but in my opinion need updated. So I 'll have to come up with something different. If you have any suggestions or would like to learn who to do, let me know, I will try and help to the best of my knowledge.

For a very Special Person

Today I am working on a copper project for a special person, with the patience of a saint.

This copper is cut with a jewelers saw, very tendous but well worth the effort.
It will be a wonderful addition to a beautiful kitchen. Can't wait to see it up.
The pot is together, and bugs is in the works......It's almost done!
Thank you for being patient!

So Much Fun

Yea! Spring is on the way!
Time to paint some fun colorful items for Spring Open House.

This is a tea pot I painted with a fun fanciful feeling. Sorry, it has sold. I love the colors and the big flower made from polymer clay. It is decorative only, but what a delight to look at. I have been painting, painting, painting. Not unusual for me! The inside of the cottage is freshly painted, Items are being dreamed up for Spring.  But I have to admit, I'm chomping at the bit to get outside, to smell the earth and feel the sun on my face.
 IT"S COMING!

Happy New Year

HELLEBORE'S ON SLATE

I want to thank everyone who joined me for my Christmas Party!
It was wonderful to see everyone again,
and Thanks to you it was a very successful Christmas Season.

The snow is falling,
Winter has come in with the New Year.

For me it's time to huddle in and start thinking about spring.
I truly become a hermit in the winter, since I am very afraid to drive in the snow.
Thankfully my studio is at my home, I'm happy as a clam!

SpRIng  FliNG,
Will come quickly, so I'll work hard to bring many new items, for my lovely customers. I had many requests for bird nests with eggs, so I will be working on an original way to bring the nests to you.  If there is anything you would especially like to see please don't hesitate to comment or email me, I will do my best to bring it to the Cottage.

Have a Happy and Healthy New Year!
Huddle in and enjoy the Winter!

I've Moved

The Cottage is seeing some major changes. Don't worry, It's now next door in the larger Cottage. You can still pop in to say hello and see my work. You will hopefully in a few weeks be able to meander your way along a brick path, through a cottage garden to the front door of the larger cottage, It's a work in progress. so please watch your step. If  i'm not working on the garden and walkway,  I'm in the old small cottage working, Although I am suppose to have visitors by appointment only, friends are always welcome.

Fairy Land Mural

Come along and walk with me, Fairies are amongst the trees.
Thank you Linda what a wonderful time I had painting this Mural.
This mural was on a semi textured ceiling, so it was very challenging to get the detail, but it worked wonderfully. Enjoy!
A quick not to let you know I will be opening a shop on the Internet soon. So keep watching!

Busy, Busy, Busy

Busy, Busy, Busy, This is a Faux Finish, for a wonderful new home in Sewickley. What a beautiful powder room. Approximately 8 to 9 layers of graduated faux from the bottom to the top, Deep red on the ceiling to accent the crown mold, and deep red graduating down the wall. Then to top it all off I accented with a graduated silver one of a kind stencil damask, from the bottom to about 3/4 up the wall. What fun! Thank you, Linda! Hope that your move went smoothly! Enjoy
